Qatar, officially the State of Qatar, is an Arab emirate in Southwest Asia, occupying the small Qatar Peninsula on the northeasterly coast of the larger Arabian Peninsula. It is bordered by Saudi Arabia to the south; otherwise the Persian Gulf surrounds the state.
Population
Qatar has a population of approximately 1,000,000.
Political Structure
Since 1995, Emir Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani has ruled Qatar, seizing control of the country from his father Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani while the latter vacationed in Switzerland. Under Emir Hamad, Qatar has experienced a notable amount of sociopolitical liberalization, including the enfranchisement of women, a new constitution, and the launch of Al Jazeera, a leading English and Arabic news source, which operates a website and satellite television news channel. Sheikh Hamad ibn Jassim Bin Jaber Al Thani (born 1959) is a member of the royal family of Qatar and the current Prime Minister of Qatar.
Infrastructure and Economy
Tourism, the mainstay of Andorra's tiny, well-to-do economy, accounts for roughly 80% of GDP. An estimated 9 million tourists visit annually, attracted by Andorra's duty-free status and by its summer and winter resorts. The banking sector, with its tax haven status, also contributes substantially to the economy.
Andorra is not a full member of the European Union, but enjoys a special relationship with it, such as being treated as an EU member for trade in manufactured goods (no tariffs) and as a non-EU member for agricultural products.

The official language is Arabic.

Riyal (QAR).
Exchange Control
None.
Law
Based on Islamic and civil law codes. Discretionary system of law controlled by the amir, although civil codes are being implemented; Islamic law dominates family and personal matters. Qatar have not accepted compulsory ICJ jurisdiction.
